Natural Face Tonic with Sage Water and Botanical Extracts

The first question worth asking about any tonic: what is its base? Most tonics are built on plain water with active ingredients added. In this formula, the second position on the INCI list — right after water — is sage leaf water. That means a large part of the liquid base is already functional, not just a solvent.

Four botanical extracts — each with its own role

This is not a formula where one “miracle ingredient” does everything. Four extracts work together, each contributing something specific:

• Sage Leaf Water (Salvia Officinalis) — traditionally used to help maintain skin freshness and a sense of cleanliness. Sage is a core Bio2You botanical alongside sea buckthorn — it appears in several products, and in this tonic it has the lead role. Gives the tonic a subtle, herbal, clean scent.
• Chamomile Flower Extract (Chamomilla Recutita) — calms reddened, sensitive skin. One of the longest-used botanical extracts in European cosmetics — and one of the few whose calming effect on skin is supported by modern studies as well.
• Sea Buckthorn Fruit Extract (Hippophae Rhamnoides) — supports the skin barrier, leaving skin feeling more refreshed. The Bio2You signature ingredient — here it adds an antioxidant dimension to the toning process.
• Rosehip Fruit Extract (Rosa Canina) — rich in vitamin C and natural antioxidants. Leaves skin looking fresher and more well-groomed.
• Yarrow Extract (Achillea Millefolium) — traditionally used for skin balancing. Helps skin feel calmer — particularly if it is prone to redness or irritation.

What this tonic is NOT

Honestly — this is not a tonic that “heals”, “regenerates cells” or “prevents ageing”. It is a gentle, botanically-based tonic that helps skin feel clean, calm and balanced after cleansing. If you are looking for aggressive exfoliation or an acid toner — this is not it. If you are looking for an everyday tonic that cares for skin rather than stressing it — this is exactly it.

What else matters in the formula

• Glycerin — a humectant that attracts water molecules and helps skin maintain a sense of moisture after toning. Without glycerin, a water-based tonic would simply evaporate and leave skin just as dry as before.
• Citric Acid — a pH adjuster ensuring the tonic’s pH is skin-friendly (mildly acidic, as skin needs).
• Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Benzyl Alcohol — the preservative system. Yes, there are preservatives — because a water-based formula containing botanical extracts would spoil within days without them. That is responsible formulation, not a shortcoming.

About the “alcohol-free” claim

This formula does not contain ethanol (Alcohol Denat.) — the alcohol that dries skin in traditional toners. However, the INCI list does include Benzyl Alcohol — which is a preservative, not a drying alcohol. That is why we write “ethanol-free” rather than “alcohol-free” — because the latter would be technically inaccurate.

How to use

1. After cleansing, dampen a cotton pad with the tonic.
2. Gently wipe across the entire face — including under the chin, the neck, and along the hairline.
3. Allow the tonic to absorb before the next step in your routine (serum or cream).
4. Use morning and evening as part of your daily routine.
